I have a 1963 MF 35 Deluxe gas. It will run great for 30 to 40 seconds and then just die. I'll crank it over but she won't fire. When I leave it sit for a few hours it will fire, run and die again.
It is getting gas.Could it be the coil getting warm and quitting?? Maybe points ??? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the help fellows.I started with the fuel line and worked my way to the carb. As it turned out, when I removed the drain plug from the carb bowl no gas ran out. This wasn't right so I gave the carb a tap with my wrench and out ran the gas. You guessed it.The float was stuck. Cleaned out the carb with some carb cleaner and she's runs just fine.
Thanks again.

Gerald is correct in his advice. Check your fuel in carb, lines, filters etc. Take the bottom nut loose on the bottom of carb and let some gas flow freely in a jar or something. Look for trash, water etc.. "If" that solves the problem, go one step furthur. Make sure your tank is kept full of gas and if you will not be using the tractor for awhile, drain the carb and shut off fuel at bowl. Condensation is a big problem with older tractors. You may also want to punch in "engine keeps shutting off" in the search box at the top of this page. Lots and lots of reading concerning your problem.. Lol

Coil can do that, but usually gets worse, same for condenser. Points shouldn't do though if the pivot pin is dry they may hang open sometimes. Only takes a drop of oil to cure that.

Fuel can be starved by many things including the carburetor inlet screen, varnish in the pipes, the filter, the tank screen, and don't forget the gas cap. The gas cap vent being plugged gets the longer run times like you have and the slow recovery times.

Look at the spark from a plug wire while cranking and it not running. A good spark should be blue and not a really thin line. Really thin and yellow (good quarter inch either case) can be condenser or coil. Thin and short is most likely coil, though it could be poor wiring or a bad ballast resistor if there is one. I had a bad ignition switch that would sometimes go open on my MF-135 last year.
