MF 30 High/Low trans?

I'm looking at a MF 30 (year unknown) and it has a high/low trans? It has a lever on the left side of the trans (as your setting on it). The mechanic who maintains it says he thinks it might actually have two highs and a low? I've looked at many 30s and haven't seen another one with this high/low. Are they rare? If so is it because it was an expensive option not many wanted or is it because it was junk and wouldn't work so no one wanted it? Any input would be welcome. If anyone knows anything about how to use it (ie, what position is HIGH etc). Don't know if this is anything, but either someone had allot of extra MF silver paint laying around or this was an odd one from the factory, but the whole tractor is silver. Thanks again.

I think there also was something called a "Howard" which was added on to some Fergies. I'm assuming what you have is a TO-30, not a MF30. In any case, go to the straight Ferguson Board and search for 'howard' and you might also try the 8N Board as well.

They were an aftermarket add-on.

Here"s a web page with lots of info:

Thanks for the link. The handle looks a little differnt, but it is located just were the pictures show. Is there any way to tell externally which version of the Sherman installed? I didn"t see any plate on the steering wheel or any place else. Everything on the link you sent me discussed the Sherman being used in Fords, this tractor is a Massey Ferguson; where the Shermans used on Masseys?
