I have been told that the 101"s that came out on steel have slower ratio gears. Would anyone know where I could locate a parts rearend, gears or a complete rearend. I have been tols that the numbers stamped on the side of the trans ends with B denoting steel wheels but not sure on this.

I have a 101 Senior rear end you can have for free, but I'm located up in the Idaho panhandle

don`t know about the "B" designation, but anyway, going a little deeper ,only 3rd &4th are different, being slower on the steel wheeled tractors.101jr.and 101sr.parts will interchange, but if you have a 101super you will have to use 101super parts, even then tricky with serial no.changes.3 gears that are different,3rd&4th slider,3rd main ,and 4th main. i know this info doesn`t get you your parts, but hopefully narrow your search to get you exactly what you need. best of luck.
have part nos.and serial nos. if you need them.

Thanks for the info. I did'nt realize that just 3 & 4 were slower. I was hoping to find a lower 1st gear for pulling. I have a 101 Super. I was thinking on shorter tires but hate to give up my 38's. With the open drive shaft it seems like a gear reduction would work but don't know where I find something that would work. Any ideas?

what size 38s? used to pull a 1940 Super with 12-4-38s in antique pulls, always pulled 230-240 percent.Had a 44-6 we pulled, had 38s,but we had 11-2s on it,did real well with it too. An option would be the 36 in. wheels that some 101s had, but then you`d be gaining weight with the cast centers.Maybe find some 36in.rims and some 38in. steel centers and cut the centers down, weld them together?

I run 13.6x38 and 15.5x38 depending on the pull rules. I run about 2,400 rpm and this gets over 4 mph in first gear. Most classes allow 3 1/2 mph so i can never open up until i get to slipping. The tires I have hook up real good and sometimes by time i open it up the motor won't come back. It has been real competitive though and have several first so I'm looking for that extra edge. Maybe more power is the answer??
Any tips for more power out of a Chrysler? I'm running about 120 PSI per cylinder.
