My MF 175 suddenly started making a thumping noise
near transmission area under platform where battery sits. Noise is constant with engine speed,
faster engine turns, faster the sound but not louder. Disengaging clutch, transmission in or out of gear, pto,hyd lift,multi-power functions do not alter sound.Any clue or idea will help before tearing into.

Quick and easy first step would be to take the starter off and get a look in at the flywheel and ring gear and see if there is anything unusual. Could be something on the starter too?

If the sound stops when the three point lift moves up don't worry it is only the hyd pump. Re-adjust the position of the quadrant lever and it may stop. Many of the older fergie's knocked for years with out any aparent problems.

Only thing that stops this noise is shutting engine off. Moving quadrant,draft,pto,multi-power,engine clutch does not effect noise. Noise is inside transmission case at top left. I listened using asteel punch as a dowel to my ear & sounds like something slapping inside of transmission case where clutch linkage clevis is on outside. Looked thru oil fill plug, but can't see in that corner. My tech manual shows a multi power valve or something multi-power in that area.
