Help.
I have a MF with a broken distributor--the new distributors self distruct--the old one has no numbers on it. Any ideas

What do you mean by "The new ones self destruct"? If it's what I think you mean, the problem isn't the new distributors; it's your cam shaft. The distributor is gear driven off the cam shaft, excess vibration in the cam is transmitted to the distributor and it eats itself. The excess vibration in mine was caused by the threaded end of the cam (plus the nut)breaking off. This is at the front end of the cam, beneath the timing cover. The nut was supposed to hold on the governor assembly. Big Dean clued me in that this is a not-unheard-of occurance and there's no getting around fixing it the right way (new cam at least, mine turned into a total rebuild as I had the time and $$ then and figured I was in that deep anyway, so...). Failing to fix it right will just mean a string of ruined distributors, probably going belly up faster each time. Hope it's simpler than that, but it sounds like not.
