Hey guys, I'm getting a 275 massey today with a bison loader on it and was told the brakes would probably need to be redone soon. Before I get an IT manual for it I was just wondering how much of a job this is going to be and are the brakes on the outer end of the axles or next to the transmission? Dealer who I work with says it runs and shifts great and the hydraulics are good on it, it has had all new rubber put on it yesterday and new paint and decals. Tractor looks pretty sharp but I have not seen it in person yet, I do have some pics of it however. I know this may sound a little recklass but I do have a great dealer I can trust and I have the option of trying it out and if I don't like it, trading it in on another. I believe its going to be a good tractor however. I drive mostly deeres but I do have a 135 massey right now and have had since 86. It will be going on the market after this other one comes in and proves itself. The loader on the 275 looks to not have had much use at all. Also, if I hot tap the hydraulics to add a joystick on the loader or at least separate valves, where are the pressure and return points for the fluid.
Thanks too all,
Gary

I agree with Tom get the Massey Ferguson factory manuals if you do buy this tractor The MF275 has wet disc brakes they are located in the inside end of the rear axle housings up next to the rear center housing. The MF wet brakes usually last for a very long time. I know of some tractors with over 10,000 hours on them that have never had anything done to the brakes except for adjusting them. The worst part is getting the tires and wheels off if they loaded with fluid. Removing the axle housing and replacing the brake disc is not that bad of a job. you need equipment to handle the axle housing with it is fairly heavy.

Hey Big Dean,
Thanks for the info, not exactly good news as far as getting too the brakes but not a surprize either. I figured thats where they were. The tractor is only showing 1948 hours on the tach.
The tractor does have brakes but the pedals go almost all the way down before stopping her. How do you go about adjusting them.

The lever that the brake rod running back connects to has a bolt sticking out through it turn that nut on it clockwise to raise the pedal. They work best when they have just a little over a half a pedal of brake.

Don't think much of your idea to get "IT" brand manual. Get 3 real MF manuals for your new tractor: Operator Manual, Repair Manual, and Parts Manual. You will need them and they will pay for themselves. Good luck with your new tractor.
