I'm putting back together a Z145 motor that we field dressed about 4 years ago. Can anyone help me out on a few items? I need to know what holds the oil pick up screen onto the tube, was it just a cotter pin?

I need help putting the rocker shaft back together. It all came out as one, but the guy who did the head for me took it apart and I don't have a good picture. The shaft is assembled with all of the springs but the end ones are wired on. Are they held in place by friction against the valve cover?

Which head bolt(s) should have the tall threaded part on them? I have 1, should there be more? My I&T doesn't have a very good shot and our friendly neighborhood MF dealer sold out and moved to NC a few years back! I guess I need to find a new one!

Thanks.

The end springs are held in place with thin cotter keys. That pass just outside the corks that plug the ends of the hollow rocker arm shaft. Without the corks the rockers don't get oiled well and don't last. And the Garlock bushings are no longer available for replacements.

The MF parts book is really handy. I bought mine from MF factory at Racine years ago.

I would get some real MF-brand manuals. Get Repair Manual and a Parts Manual. The repair manual will give you all the procedures and specs for your job. The Parts Manual will give you the very best exploded view for correct re-assembly.

On those manuals, are the ones on CD any good? The ones on Ebay say MF130 for one of them, not 135. Any suggestions? Should I just get them via the link up top on YT?

All of the help is greatly appreciated. I was hoping to finish the motor this weekend but without those pages, I think I'm sunk!

Dan

The CD-ROM I picked up on epay really covers the MF-148 and I don't recognize most of it. The I&T manual is better, but not as thorough as the factory manual.

Dan, I got the real manuals at local MF Dealer. I got paper ones rather than the CD kind, because I use the manuals out at the barn. good luck.
