Found a 44 Special.Hood & grille could use replacing but repairable.Rockshaft is the only part of the 3 pt.there.Fenders are rough but I have some good ones.Steering wheel needs repaired.Engine supposedly runs good.PS from a 444 is included in deal.Tires are very good.Generator is missing.M & W clutch seems(feels) o.k..2200.How much in your opinion and are there that many Specials to be found out there? TIA,bob

Bob,
Depends on your plans. These tractors are too old
for repairs from hard MH work. The S/N has to be about 55313& up for the heavier carrier bearings,
pinion upgrade. The M& W clutch would have to test
out 'well', since about zero parts. Rim rust, tire
size , cond, gear oil in the tranny case? Not too
excited on the 444PS, unless it was rebuilt. Your
engine, drive train #1 concern. Having the lift shaft is the key, to Hitch-All. You can retro the two point, after market 4600 Ford/MF175 parts,
Crafton Tractor, Van Buren,MO.Tires/engine/rims
can flex the price from 900, to $2K. No disc
brakes is a drop of 2-3 hundred. How much clutter(non-MH) on the Special? Gated shift, correct?

Plan would be to restore it to go with the 44 & 44-6.Am a bit of a perfectionist so----Are parts available for the 444ps?I can rebuild about anything as a rule unless it takes special tools that I wouldn't have. Has some dual hooks on the wheels, but the drawbar isn't worn as bad as either the 44 or thr 44-6.It belongs to a friend so I think it probably does run o.k.since he said it did.No clutter except for the hyd oil filler cap. Some kind of pipe fitting on it now.Has what I think is a Schwartz front end.You lost me on the gated shift.44S was a 10 speed wasn't it?How can you tell if it has disc brakes? They visible like a Super M?Will go back with your list in hand.Sure hope I can meet you someday and thank you personally. Thanks, bob

Quickest disc brake site:no external return springs(boot through the cast housing). Only on
the MH's w/ live PTO clutch. Your M &W clutch, if
a M & W, means no disc brakes. The Hyd tank cap: a 80's F6-7-8 Ford truck gas 370/429 had a PS cap
that usually was a fit, but bayonett was about
five inches short. To confirm the tranny case is a Special, I mentioned the gated shift on the 5 speed. Same gate on the Triple, but only the Triple had ten speed. Yes, there were a 'few' late production '55 Specials w/ ten, but not more
than a blend of parts(seat support different).
The rack/pinion PS pins can be made, to 'help'
wobble steering. Supply house can match old seals,
if yours are leaking. Any receipts on repairs?
You may recall a guy snoozing at an auction, while
the 'letter' color models were selling, might have been me...
