Hi All, I'm still reassembling my MF 65 perkins(ad4.203) diesel after a complete tear down. I have two questions. The first is what torque should the studs that thread into the block first and will later be used to hold the head down be torqued to? The second question I have is, is it ok for the pistons to rise slightly above the flat surface at the top of the block by no more than .002 or should they be below this surface? What are specs for how high the pistons can rise. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Dev.

If there is torque specs for the head studs I have never saw it. As long as you have all the threads in and they are snug they will be fine. If you tighten them to tight you can damage the block. The flat end with the short thread goes in the block. I do not have a book for the A4-203 engine but the best I remember the piston on top dead center should be 0.0 to 0.005 below the surface of the block. I think 0.002 they may strike the head but with out a book to get the specs I can not be absolutely sure. It is not good to trust things like that to memory.
