You guys in the colder climes, how many run 2 batteries in their diesels? Between the preheater, cold oil and compression, when the temps get in the teens, I have to hook up my 200 amp starter/charger the get enough juice to get my 65 running. Battery alone drops to 8v under the load. I have a 900cca battery in it, thinking about adding another.

Another option in cold climates is to run one of the synthetic heavy duty oils in the winter for much easier cranking. Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 is one such well respected oil which is not horribly expensive ... generally around $13/gallon at WalMart.

No trouble yet starting the Perkins diesel on my MF35 with one battery. I've used the block heater for a half hour when the temperature's below zero (F).

Here in Ontario where it can get down in temp. I run 1 battery, but its about 2 feet long and about 1 foot wide and 1100CCA. It whats specd. for a MF255. For the month of Jan. and Feb. I usually have it plugged in all the time so I can get it started to feed the cows.

Don't live in cold climate, but my MF-690 came from factory with 2 12-Volt batteries, hooked in parallel; with only 12 Volt electrical system. I run two exact model/age/brand batteries of 650 CCA each. However, I also have a block heater that I plug in for about 45 minutes when it is under freezing; starts tractor right up.

do you have a block heater on it? if not,i would suggest putting one on.if plugged in for 1/2hour,45min.it will start like it`s 60degrees out.much less wear on starter&battery, probably buy a good one for 30.00 or less.

My 706 ger.diesel was set up with 2 6 volt batteries in series to give 12 volts. Always workede good. Plugged tractor in when I had to use it.
