I recently purchased what I believe is a 1949 MH 44 LP.I believe it is a factory LP system because everything fits well together, it does not look homemade. The hood and instrument panel are cut and fit the LP tank, and there is a faded LP decal on the underside of the hood but I am unsure how to tell for sure since there is no serial tag on the tractor. I believe it is a 1949 because on the bottom of the transmission housing is stamped 1949. IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION ON IF THIS IS A FACTORY LP I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.

I'm not positive but i heard 1952 was the only year they made from the factory a LP 44.

Model number and serial number combination is stamped on the top of the transmission case to the left of the PTO/Pulley lever. The date on the underside of the belly is the casting date for that part.

serial number to the 44 is 44GR 9991, in a reference book I came across it shows its a 1949 gas model, is this correct? Is there any aftermarket LP pieces to these tractors being as all the parts fit together so well ,or is it possible that somebody put this together using parts from an LP that no longer worked? I was looking for a factory LP, I thought this one was since everything fit,but if this turns out it is not one would anyone be interested in purchasing it?call if interested-josh612-221-3780

My book also says it is a 1949 gasoline row crop. Not sure how accurate the book is though.I would have thought Massey Harris would have built an LP model in more than just 1952.However I have what I think is a 1948 Buyers guide and it doesn't show an LP tractor model. You are probably correct. My guess would be the tractor is most likely a combination of two tractors.

Thanks for all your info, you're probably right, this is probably a well-pieced together tractor. What would a tractor like this be worth? It runs good (on LP), its in fair condition and has factory fenders and power steering? Because like I had said I was hoping it was a factory LP when I got it, since it is not, I'd like to sell it.
