What was the original size rear tires used on MF 35 (Diesel)? Was it 12.4 x 28 or 13.4 x 28. I have the spin out wheels that are adjustable.

According to my brand-new 1961 MF35 Diesel owner's manual, the rear tires are "11 - 28", and the fronts are "6 - 16".

My 1953 Ferguson TEA20 has 12.4 X 28, and the MF35 has 13.4 X 28.

Maybe the wide tire craze of the seventies inflated all of the tire specs.

Thanks for your help. I have 12.4 X 28 on the rear and would like to jump up one size for the extra stability on steep land. The cleats on my present tires do not hold that well, even though the tread life is almost new.

I would think a wider tire would slide more. I would try adding wheel weights or fluid to the tires.

12.4 fit an 11 inch wide rim according to my handy Goodyear Farm Tire Handbook (available on line these days too).

A 13.6 can squeeze onto an 11 inch wide rim acceptable according to the same table.

For more traction, look at radials, though they tend to be expensive.

Don't run too much air in your bias ply tires and they will grip better. Probably 12 to 16 psi is all they need.

If the hill is too steep for the rear tires to hold, think how the tractor might roll if the tires held instead of sliding... I doubt your neck is strong enough to hold the tractor up while it rolls over. Small tractors can be killers.

Tires didn't grow so fast as much as the sizes were changed from the rim dimension to the widest part of the tire. 11 became 12.4.

I think there's a conversion chart for tractor rears at Miller Tire.
