While working on the brakes, and having the hydralic fluid drained, I decided to go ahead and peek inside the casting to look for any obvious reason why the lift quit working. Wow! the first thing I saw was chunks of metal laying in the bottom. The piston on the lift cylinder appears to have bound up and pulled the sleeve out of the cylinder while lowering/raising the lift arms. This motion destroyed the sleeve completely. It was half way out of the cylinder casting and the broken chunks worked their way to the bottom of the differential casing. Anybody have any experience with this? I think I can resleeve it and put new rings on the piston, and be ready to go. The damage seems to be limited to the sleeve itself. Really interested in what Big Dean thinks about this.

did your top linl pull apart suddenly when this happenes. in which case there is apiec of linkage that looks like a bolt with a ring welded to the end of it . this may be broken and can be replaced whike the top cover is up. when mine broke not the cylinder however. that what was wrong with min. however upon further inspection i could see where th lift cylinder could be destroyed

John

There are 2 different cylinders depending on serial number. I have both NOS. One is 7-15/16 long the later one is 8-3/16 long.

Never been into MF65, may be different from my MF690. Only MF Repair Manual I have is for my tractor. Do you have a MF Repair Manual? If not good time to get one. BigDean may have help on his website for this. Good Luck.

I've learned today from Big Dean that the sleeve is someone's attempt to fix a bad cylinder. I will be on the phone tomorrow for new parts. I have a good manual as well as Dean's CD for my tractor. Just a little more wrench work and I am always glad to work on something that is so obvious what is wrong. I hate troubleshooting equiptment when the problem may be one of a dozen different things, don't you guys? John
