Oh Dear! Mis-information abounds, FE is the designation for all Coventry built 35's,but will normally apply to the Grey and Gold 35 of 1956/57,available with either petrol, tvo,or 4cyl 23c diesel engines.MF would apply to an FE 35 built after the merger and painted Red and Grey, available with the same engine options until 19th Nov.1959 when the Perkins 3-A-152 engine replaced the Standard 23c.The 35X designation was given to diesel tractors (not vineyard models) sometime in 1962 when the 3cyl engine was uprated and given an increase in H.P. to 44.5.This engine was in-direct injection untill its transformation into the MF 135 in 1964.

You could also ask this question over at the Ferguson Board. TO 35 was the starting point for the 35 series machines.
TO was US made, FE was UK made, MF could be either. 35X was a late production had diff lock.I have been told some also had the Direct injected 3 cyl perkins diesel (nice)

Hi,

The FE 35 ( early models ) had the Standard Motors 23c 4 cyl Diesel in them, then the later FE 35 had the Perkins A3.152 3 cyl Diesel in them. The last run of FE 35 with the 23c left Coventry with FE 35 on the tag, but were painted MF red/grey and were and MF 35 stickers on them. and the 35X had diff lock, foot throttle, 3 cyl perky ( not sure about direct injected though, could anyone confirm this?? ) and I think power steering too.

TO = Tractor Overseas ( USA built ) FE = Ferguson England ( Banner Lane, Coventry UK. )

Take care
Will

Speaking only of diesels, the FE35 had Standard 23c engine, MF35 was available with either the 23c or from abt. 1959 the Perkins 3.152 engine, and the MF35x had the Perkins A3.152 engine with 200 more revs and about five more hp's than the 3.152. The direct injection engine - the AD3.152 - was introduced with the MF135 in 1964.
SNM means standard ag tractor, Perkins diesel, and dual clutch.
