I was mulling replacement a while ago, and thought the old 65G utility would end up going for salvage. But thanks to parts sourced from Montes Equipment, Wengers of Myerstown, MM Weaver and Sons, and Walt"s Tractors, the little beast will soon be good for another 12,000 hours. The tractor"s been here since new in 1959, no reason for it to leave now.

G176 gas engine. Needed a head rebuild, including the rockershaft assembly. Montes had those parts. Got new exhaust parts from Walt"s, changed to a 165-style vertical muffler, idea being to reduce back-pressure and heat retention from the little muffler that was mounted horizontal next to the exhaust manifold (tractor did have vertical pipe from the muffler). Walt"s also supplied a new water pump. Rest of engine in good shape*, but main seals leaked, got those and a new carb intake hose from Weavers. They also supplied clutch parts. Currently have the radiator apart and rodding it out, got new hoses for that from Wengers. Wengers also supplied a rebuilt starter, since mine was weak.

*The engine was actually overhauled 1500 hours ago, but discovered the guy that did the job for my grandmother sent the head out to have it done, and that shop did a lousy job.

There's something very reassuring about using a tractor you've grown familiar with. If nothing else, I feel safer on one that I've ran for years. I've got a MF 50 that my dad bought new on the day I was born. I don't remember when it WASN'T on the farm. It's as comfortable as an old pair of shoes, and a dang sight less smelly!

Good luck with the 65! John
