I purchased this machine about 2 months ago and have used it extensively with a grader blade and bush hog.
Today while cutting grass, the need to backup arose and I shifted to reverse and then could not get the tractor out of reverse.
Is this a typical problem with this type transmission? Any ideas on how to remedy this?
Thanks,
Chip

Hi Chip -

Common problem. Shift lever wears at the bottom end, and jumps up (or gets pulled up by the operator) against the downward spring pressure in a fast shift.

Shift the hi-lo lever to neutral, clean off the transmission oil filler cover, remove it, and go in with a long clean heavy screwdriver and move the sliding gear forward.

Reseat the gear shift lever - you may be able to get it by lifting, or you may have to remove the retaining pin (about 1/4 x 1 1/4) under the rubber boot.

We have built some up with brazing to correct the problem.

Thanks for the info. I did as you said before I read your message. I was blindly moving and rattling things in the transmission case when the shift lever just poped back to a neutral position.
I then tried the other positions in the shift pattern and all seemed well. After about 2 hours of bush hoggin and post hole digging, it still acts normal. I hope this does not happen frequently from here on out.
Thanks again .
Chip
