I need to know if the wire between distributor
points and negative terminal on coil is some type
of special wire. The insulation on mine was cracked so I replaced with regular thhn type wire.
I put new terminals on and was careful to crimp
them on correctly. Noticed old wire was silver
and the wire I used is copper colored. Ignition
seems to work sometimes and other times I get
weak or no spark at all. Then the next time it runs great with strong blue spark. I have changed
everything from distributor to sparkplugs. Plugs
are new and gapped corectly according to Continental engine manual also have changed ignition coil. Would electronic ignition made by
Petronix work better. I need to fix this. This is in a forklift that we depend on in our company.
Thank you for any help.

Just had same problem on my MH 30, had to replace bushings in ditributor shaft, check to see if cam that opens and closes points has any side to side movement, if it does this is your problem, this will continuosly change point gap and as a result give a unconsistant spark if any at all. let us know how you do.

I wouldnt worry about that wire.. and from our experiances with the electronic ignitions you might just save your money-- never had one make any difference ( matter of fact one is worse about fouling plugs )

I had a similar thing on my f-124. It ended up being that the points were shorting thru the insulator. This could happen at the dist. case, on the pivot pin, or the spring could be touching the case on the inside. I'd replace the points & condenser. It prob should be done anyways & it might fix the problem.
