I have recently started looking to buy a MF 35 Diesel. I have heard that the 4cyl is hard to start in the cold. Is this the only down fall of the 4 cyl compared to the 3 cyl. I've came across a good 4 cyl unit but I'm hesitant to buy. Are parts as easy to purchase for the 4 cyl as it is for the 3 cyl? Any info regarding this tractor would be very much appreciated. I'm looking forward to owning one of these tractors in the near furture.

Hello,
I have the Standard 23C Diesel and yes it is hard to start. With the help of a lower radiator heater and a fully charged battery I just started her last week in the sub 20-degree days here in Michigan. I also have a MH 50 with the Continental gas engine and the 23C will out work the Continental all day long for less money.

RYAN , I OWN ONE OF EACH . PERKINS ARE EASIER TO START AND, PARTS ARE MORE PLEANTIFUL . THIS MEANS THEY COST MORE TO PURCHASE. IF YOU LIKE HAVING SOMETHING NOT EVERYONE ELSE HAS ( I KNOW OR WANTS ) BUY THE STANDARD 23C ( 4CYL ). I HAVE A 600 WATT LOWER RADIATOR HOSE HEATER , 4 NEW GLOWPLUGS ( I MACHINED ADAPTERS TO RUN 6.2 CHEVY DIESEL PLUGS IN PARALEL ) , KEEP OUT OF THE WIND , AND IT WILL START .(WITH PATIENCE ) THEY BOTH GET THE SAME FUEL ECON . DON"T GET ME WRONG IF I NEED IT RIGHT NOW I START THE PERKINS . I PAY"D $3500 FOR AN UGLY PERKINS THAT RUNS GOOD BUT NEEDS SOME REPAIRS ( MULTIPOWER IS LEAKING ONTO CLUTCH ), I PAYED $700 FOR THE 23C IN THE SAME YEAR , HAVE $2200 INTO THE REBUILD AND PAINT . YOU TELL ME WHICH WAS THE BETTER DEAL .

First of all ??? gas or deisel, 2nd...where do you live ,climate wise, I live in Montreal and anything plugged in cold weather should start. . the local collecters tell me that the 35 deisel is the cats you know what! i just got one , apparently the perkins 3 cyl is a trooper you cannot kill them and they run cheap. Let me know Robert from Quebec.

Hi,

We have a MF 35 Standard 23c diesel ( 4 cyl ) and yeah they are hard to start in the cold, even plugged in they are hard. The are a great little motor, reliable and quiet, but sadly parts are getting hard to come by for the 23c. We are rebuilding a Perkins 3A152 to put into our trusty 35, so we should get atleast another 46 years out of her!!

Take care

Will
