Hi I am new to Massey Ferguson tractors and am looking to buy one of the three tractors mentioned. I know very little about these models and I am having trouble finding a book to help me choose. So any opinions would be helpfull. All tractors are in very nice shape and in the $4000 to $6000 range. The tractor will be used to finish mow about an acre with a JD 72" 3pt mower and lite field work such as spraying and planting.

The Ferguson 40 is basically the same as the MF 35, just older. It does have a heavier front axle and different steering arrangement.

I don't know the F-40, but the MF35 and MF-135 have about the same capabilities. How handy for your work depends on their transmission and steering options. The 35 is the predecessor of the 135.

6' of finish mower is not enough to make either work. They will be inefficient hauling 3900 pounds of tractor for that small a cut. I mow 9' with a mower conditioner in hay 3' tall with my MF-135 at 6 mph. That makes it work. My 6'3" flail mower loads it down when mowing hay or weeds a couple feet tall. Its no load when mowing a few inches as one would with a finish mower.

I sprayed beans last year with the MF-135. A 65 gallon tank on the three point made the front very light.

I think your prices are on the high side, especially for the older tractors.

I think power steering was a more popular option on the 135. Either the 35 or the 135 could have come with a 6, 8, or 12 speed transmission.

I mow 4' wide with a 10 HP garden tractor, so 6' wide should take no more than 15 hp, not 35 hp.

For me would be 135 every day of the week. 35 is good as well. 135.
