Does anyone know if anyone makes a set of pistons that are flat top instead of dish for a Massey Ferguson Z134 engine? The book say the Z134 engine has a compression ratio around 6.1 - 7.1 I had mine overbored from 3 5/16 to 3 3/8 Does anyone know how much it would increase the compression to? I would like to get the compression ratio up to around 9.1 Maybe someone knows wether a piston from another motor that has the same bore and stoke might fit. Any help on how i could do this or where i could get pistons or info Please Help.THX>

The high altitude Z 134 had flat topped pistons. The compression was about 8:1. Don't know whether they came in the overbore size, but Big Dean would certainly know.

So what was the answer? I'm considering rebuilding mine, and would like to get the compression up as well.

I was told that some of the massey Z-134 engines came with a couple of differant setups. First the regular engine with dish pistons and they made another for high altitude wich came with flat top pistons. The dish pistons where between 6.1 and 7.1 compression and the flat top was in the 8's I was also told that massey also built a MF50 LP Gas tractor with the same Z134 engine that used high compression Domed pistons. If i remember right the compression ratio was around 10.1 or maybe a little higher. Anyway you could go with flat top and have a little stronger motor or go all out and get the domed pistons. I do know that if you use the domed pistons that you will have a problem on pump gas because the propane has an octane around 105. And then again maybe not. I built a chevy V8 awile back and i had domed pistons with 11.1 comp ratio and all i had to do is add a octane booster. The good thing about this engine is the pistons are out there and you can buy them without haveing to special order them and that will save alot. Also i was told that no head change was needed if you went with the domed pistons from the propane tractor. Anyway thats all i have been able to find out hope it helps.
