Massey tested the 44 with the 4 cyl at Nebraska and got 47 hp at the belt and 41.3 at the drawbar. They did not test the 6 cylinder version. I do remember in the ads that Massey rated for plowing the 6 cylinder version with less power. I recall they called the 44 (with 4 cyl) a 3-4 plow and the 44 with the 6 cyl a 3 plow.

On the drawbar, the 44-6 was 39+. Since the RPM's
were boosted on the 6, you could tweak to about
even. They just ran hotter(temp. wise). No need
for after market PS on a six, they steered so easy. Also, one of the quietest engines, at close
idle you could be a hundred feet away, wondering if it stalled. Had to stare at the Nelson muffler, to view gas eshaust. A classic, like
so many of the correct red.

I tryed pulling my 44-6 last year. Did'nt do too well. I was about the 17th or 18th tractor to pull. I started to get up near the front when it poped out of gear. Anyway, the ol'lady was taping some of the pulls. I thought it was kinda funny when I watched the tape. The ol' 44-6 was the only one you could'nt hear running when it was pulling.
