Hey! "Harris Guy" don't be makin fun of your own relatives. If you were up here in the great white north and out in 10 below weather with a 7'snowplow and chains flailing on those 30 inch tires you would appreciate a std... including the elephant ears. Not to mention the battery powered hair dryer blowing on the bottom of the intake..... ....

I think the MH 44 is one the best all-round classic tractors ever made. But then I'm a MH guy. But I would put the Farmall M the AC WD and a few others in the same lofty perch.
Agco (who own the rights to the MH Name) have alot parts available thru their Heritage program, and there are quite a few places to get parts. Continental engine parts aren't to hard to find. Their easy to work on and they run strong. I have seven tractors.....the 44 would be the last one I would sell.....

Massey used continental built engines. The standard 44 will have a H260-4 cylinder engine, steel front rims. The special will have a H277-4cylinder engine, cast hubs on the front. The u-frame is longer. The upper shaft on the steering shaft is enclosed in a tube. The rear wheels mount with squeese clamps instead of bolts like the standard 44.They both are good tractors. My father used a 44 when he farmed and it worked very well.If there is more info you need drop me a line.

i THOUGHT THE ENGINES WERE CONTINENTAL. THIS ONE IS ON CAST AND HAS A WIDE FRONT, OWNER SAYS IT RUNS. sheet metal looks good, but in very rusty condition, He's asking 1000. is that a high price, rubber is in good shape. it's not something i half to have, but it's close to home !

Is it an adjustable wide front end or is it fixed?Row crop or standard? Some people will tell you the 44 Special was one of the best tractors ever built. It definitely is a classic in my mind and a tractor I hope to own some day.I passed on a row crop Specil a few years back and now---Oh well. They were fairly rare here in central Indiana.I don't think $1,000 sounds too high if it isn't in too bad a condition. Please let us know if you decide to not buy the tractor.

If it has 38" rear wheels, it's the real thing, no
lazy 'standard', with30" wheels, fixed tread, ugly
elephant fenders, wasting good MH components. The
best thing one can do with a standard, is convert
it to a row crop. Dump those sleeping fenders, pull the short axle shafts/sleeves, bolt up cast 38" rears, change the fixed front axle to a pedestal or adjustable wide front end, add platform spacers, RC fenders. Most of these parts
can be found in the weeds, or by a tree. A grand
for a Special RC, running decent, is immediately
the best tractor you own. Nothing can replace this
classic. People are waiting for it, if you fail to grab it. Has to make you wonder, doesn't it???
