i had a post on about the gears on this tractor toolbox gave me some tips, i checked for voltage at the switch and it was 12.4v there is contionuity through the switch when you move the stick over and it will work in high if you connect live to the solenoid but also finding that 4wd is stuck in diff lock dont work althougth occasionaly you can get into high range but after a minute it slams into low on the move i replaced all spade connectors on the switch and solenoid to be sure of cood contact so i wonderd if it could be the autotronic controller 'it has a mind of its own' any help

Sounds to me that you have a power problem to the autoerotic box,
Firstly check to see if you have two fuses above the batteries very early 3000 didnt, if you have follow the wire to the +ve battery terminal. If you have only one wire at the terminal and it looks ok then cut the loom back about 6 and you will find a join were a red and a yellow wire join in to one, check this, cut if needed and put 2 new eyes on. The yellow wire is the main feed for the autoerotic and the red is for the ELC.
Next if still no go, locate the autoerotic box under cab floor out side by r/h step, remove the metal cover (3 screws) The main power connector is the one at the front check the yellow power wires and the orange wire for corrosion.
If you have no fuses at the battery, then the power comes out of the cab at the front L/H side in one of the block connecters cant remember which, but you should be able to trace it back from the auto 1 box.
If you still have no joy let me know,

calling toolbox
hi
The 3090 is the type with the wires that run to the battery lug. The yellow and red connect together with eyelet. The fuses are in good order and there are 12.5 volts coming from them, the yellow wire goes into the foremost connector on the autoerotic box and it has 12.5 volts also. i disconnected all the connectors and sprayed them with electrical cleaner and now it wont go into high at all again and i still have no pto diff and is stuck in 4WD. the only date i can see on the box is 1988. so where to go now.
Cheers Matt

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying.
Firstly make absolutely sure that the power feed is ok, run a continuity test (ohms) from the connector on the autotronic box back to the battery post, as you can still get battery voltage with a bad connection but no amps. Do the same with the earth which is in the same connector its one of the black wires.
If all is ok, what is the transmission oil pressure light on the dash doing ? With the key off, put your foot on the clutch pedal and release, the light should come on for a few seconds.
If its on all the time when the autotronic box isnt working (with engine running) It may be that you have low oil pressure in the 17Bar circuit, but its probably the pressure switch located on the top right of the pump cover. You can join the wires to count this out.
There is also a 50ohm resistor at the end of one wire which is plugged on to the pressure switch which if it has an open circuit or no resistance will also put the light on and prevent the autotronic box from working.
After oil pressure the autotronic box also needs a signal from the engine speed sensor to work, this is hard to test without the correct gear but one way of telling if it working is that the oil pressure light will come on and go out on start up after pushing the clutch pedal, and on pushing the clutch pedal again will come on and go out and so on, this is the box waking up and then going to sleep again as it has no signal from the speed sensor. But I can not stress enough on how important it is to have very clean and tight connections on all the plugs on the autotronic box.

Let me know how you get on.
