Hello all and I hope everyone had a fine Xmas and will have a happy new year! The tach on my 255 just quit. The tach gear drive on the front of the engine appears to be stripped or not turning for whatever reason. Before I remove it, is it servicable? Are replacement gears avail? thanks, wmw

We got those adapters from a local speedometer shop some of the older trucks used them. He also could repair most of them we took to him. you might check the local yellow pages for a speedometer shop in your area. They were about half of the cost of the ones from MF.

Hi,
No they are not really serviceable.....but.
With care, they can be taken apart. The little gear is probably loose on the spindle. If the teeth are reasonable, it is possible to glue the gear back. Check that it is free and check for any tightness in the cable and at the clock, just in case this has caused it to fail.

DavidP, thanks for the reply. futher exam showed that a plug that holds the driving gear in place has disappeared. That let the gear move towards the front of the tractor, coming unmeshed from wharever drives it in the timing cover. I should be able to find or make a plug to replace it, thanks, mw
