I have a massey 65 and would like to know what year it is. I have only the very bottom of the I.D. plate on the dash, and there is one number reading: SNY508(8?)01. It doesn't match any numbers on the list I have for Massey Ferguson 65 models. I suspect the number I need is lost with the upper portion of the ID plate. Is there any where else on the tractor where this info is found? It also says Great Britain above the numbers. Thanks for any help you can give.

Congratulations! I have a 501794, and it's been a lot of fun, and a great tractor. However, there are more than a few differencesin the early models, and be prepared to do a lot of looking. For instance, sleeves for the AD 192 I had to import from AUS. Massey's computerized parts systems do not include power steering and other parts to fit this tractor, but they can find them if they look in the binders under UK 165. Be very, very careful disassembling this tractor, because though the major parts are readily available, the smaller ones are not and this will drive you nuts... I have just run the gauntlet trying to find a manifold heater, because the threads on my tractor are 13/16-14 and that part has been obsoleted. Same thing with banjo bolts for the steering hoses. Item 1, make friends with a good machinist!

It appears you may have a 1958 vintage UK built model.

Another good site for Masseys and other brands.Puddings!!

How can I find out more about the UK models if that is what I have? I am going to work at restoring this tractor. Are these models basically the same as American built?

I think the US and UK models are pretty much the same, save for some differences in appearance. The early UK models had a Perkins A4.192 diesel. US models used the A4.203 for diesel versions.

Alan Condie has written a few books about Massey, "The Ferguson Album" is one. Pretty good read with some pictures which might help in restoration.
