I just got a used carb(zenith) that was rebuilt.I got it running but will only run with choke on. It was a little different than the one that came on it. It has a fuel shut off selinoid on the bottom that i took out and hooked 12v"s to and did nothing. I just screwed it back in without any juice going to it. Any suggestions from the Massey Gods??
Thanks
Gregg

I have an industrial 20 (MF20) that would run fine and all of a sudden would quit and only run with the choke on. I cleaned and blew but didn't solve the problem until I took the entire sediment bowl mechanism off the fuel tank. It turned out there was so much trash in the tank, it was starving the tractor for fuel before the fuel ever reached the filters. Anytime I would run over a rough spot or hit a bump, the trash in the tank would slosh around and partially clog the fuel line as it exited the tank.
I cleaned the tank and installed a sump (3/8" galvanised pipe) with an "el" to the sediment bowl.
The sump collects the trash. After draining it a couple of times, I have not had the problem again.

Make sure you don't have a leaky intake manifold, too.

Not sure about the valve you have but some must be turned open about a turn and a half.If the valve doesn't open when energized then the coil is shot. There should be a spring behind the needle.Take the spring out and try it that way.Deere also used probably the same valve on 303CID(late 55&95 models) combine engines as well as 20 series utility tractors.(i.e. 2020 gasoline tractors.)Good luck, bob

Its starved for fuel, its supposed to be starved for fuel with the solenoid not opening the jet. That solenoid is to keep it from running on with the ignition off.

You may need to replace the solenoid or find an adjustable main jet.

In the mean time check to be sure the the fuel flow into the carburetor is good. Many have a screen in the inlet and I've seen that screen hold off 60 psi air.
