I am looking for info on how the 44 does on the local fun pulls. I recently purchased a 44 that needs some work, but I would like to use it as a pulling tractor. How do they do? Whats their weight class? How can I "Kick it up a notch" yet still stay legitimate? Any info for a rookie with a new hobby would be great.

marlowe I just bought what they told me was a 1955 44 Special. Can you drop me a line would like to confirm things like year and engine information. Also have to question whether the wide-front end actually came from the factory or was taken off something else. Maybe you can answer

44 specials have a 277 engine look at block and head line just under the head gasket right side of engine in the front or rear of block [side]will be a flat spot with the CID 260 or 277 should be 277. ser.no is under and just a little left of the PTO lever between the trans and rear end cover clean off the gunk you might have to scrape a little paint it's stamped in. find that and then well know for sure. as to the wide front they came that way do you have 38 in. rear tires?

Thanks for the info. I didn't note the tire size but believe they are 38's. Will search tomorrow for no.'s and such. My doubts about the front-end,I don't know if I said, but unlike my dads 22 which the bolts screw into the hubs for the front wheels these wheels have bolts with nuts on the back side of the hubs. Just doesn't look like they would come from the factory that way. A fellow near me in N.C. has several MH's I'll check out his wide fronts

that is OEM they had cast centers with 4 bolts with nuts on the in side and just from that and if you have cast center rears it's a 44 special
