Anyone know where a new thermostart can be had, and how much I can expect to pay? This is a 12v 2a model originally mfd by CAV. Doesn't get hot even with direct 12v.
Thanks.

Hi,
You have wired it direct so it looks like you have the answer. Most tractor manufacturers used this type of starting aid, ie, Ford, IH etc. If you have another dealer nearby you should get one there or from a diesel repair shop. You may need to fit a Lucar terminal to your heater cable. They are about 18 pounds in the UK so probably about $14-15 plus any tax.
Merry Christmas
David P

Running into a problem. The thread on my old thermostart does not match the thread on the Massey replacement part#893501M91 from Perkins. About the right diameter, but different thread. Mine appears to be a 15/16-14. Even Perkins is stymied. Says they made two kinds, one with a clip on terminal, and one with a screw on, but both had the same thread into the manifold. My tractor is ser# 501794, mfd in Coventry, Eng. The data plate says it's 765, but it appears to be a 65 Mk1. Massey dealer says the US part is the same as the English part, but I've run into differences in the power steering parts before.
Anybody ever run into this?
Thanks.

It's good news that the device is so common. I hope that makes it relatively easy to find. My Massey dealer tends to mark up all his "classic tractor" parts about 300%.
Thanks, David, for the info.
