I am having some problems getting my garden tractor to start. I have narrowed the problem down to what I think is old gas that I ran through the engine. I suspect that this has cloggeg up either the intake from the fuel line to the carburator bowl or has blocked up the jets.

The engine ran fine for a while this spring, but now it won't start at all. I've checked the fuel pump and it seems to be working. I've also tried caburator cleaner. When I turn the engine and spray the carburator cleaner into the carburator, the engine runs fine. When the cleaner is used up, the engine stops running.

I've also managed to get the engine running on regular gas, but when I do get it going, it will only keep running with full choke and the throttle at it's lowest setting.

I would like to know if there is anything I can use to soak the carburator to try to get rid of deposits left by the old gas. Is there something else I can use to clean the jets?

Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.

Thanks,

RickM.

Rick...heres some stuff that worked for me. NAPA, at least in the Atlanta area carrys a product called "Seafoam Engine Treatment". I had one that wouldn't hardly run from letting it sit through the winter with old gas. I got it to crank by pouring a small amount into the neck of the carburetor. Once it was running...I continued to pour it slowly into the carb at fast idle, not letting it kill the engine, untill about a third of the can was gone. Then...I poured it to it pretty good and let it choke the engine. I let it sit about 5 minuites and then cranked it up again.

Make sure its outside when you do this cause its gonna smoke like all get out. Once it burned the stuff back out of the engine it ran good and idled smoother than it ever has.

I'm by no means a mechanic, and I'm sure theres folks here with better suggestions than a "mechanic in a can" but it worked good for me and I wouldn't hesitate to try it again if I needed to.

Good luck!
Sam
