I saw this advertised in the classified section on a 52 MH44 as being rare. What is the story behind this? Mine has one of these on it but I never really though much about it.

My 1952 MH-44 has the offset set bracket and seat.I hvae seen them on other 44's and come to think of it they were all 1952 models.I don't think they are rare.It was just one off the different ways Massey had for mounting there seats.

I have a 1950 44 massey that has the offset seat bracket. I had a 1951 44 that had the straight one.

Wondering how 'rare' got attached to a cast offset
seat support? '51-'53 MH's had them, but if this
makes the hydraulic lever better located, eyeing
the cultivator, or plow easier, difficult to say.
I thought it was to strengthen your right leg, squeezing it between the seat pan and fender, on the 30RC.

I wondered the same thing too but it don't hurt to ask. Mine has a funny bend to the gear shift lever, so when I saw this I thought they might be related. Now I am leaning more to somebody bent it or put it in wrong.

That 'funny bend' in the shift lever may well be factory, on 40K series 44's. I've seen several of these. Possible reason keeps the knob away from steering shaft support, in fifth gear, and away from the right leg, in third gear. One can only
guess why several hundred 'bent' levers were put
in these final series 44's.
