Wider tires that don't cut a trench in the dirt make for easier steering. I put 11L16 on 8" wide rims on my MF-135 with loader. They might have been just a bit of overkill, but they helped steering even with power assist a great deal.

Hi,
Good advice from everyone. First of all check the condition of the king-pin thrust bearings and that grease is getting through. At the front of the steering rods you will see the short king-pin arms. The gap between the underside of this arm and top of the axle should be no more than about 1/8 of an inch. If you have more than that, it suggests that the KP thrusts are badly worn and will need replacing. If all is OK there and grease is getting through, check your tyre pressures. You can inflate to about 45 psi, this makes a big difference. Also the profile of the tyre will affect the steering effort. A worn smooth tyre will take more turning on concrete or tarmac than a 3 rib tyre in reasonably good condition.
Regards
David P

You can use the brakes to help you steer it, might help you.

Thats assuming the brakes work!

The power steering is nice , but you can get away without it. I have a loader on my 35 diesel and use it to move dirt and sand for small projects in the summer months. My bucket is about 36 inches across and I can fill it full of sand. Tends to lift the back wheels off the ground if you overlift with it.

Hang a counterweight e.g. a big block of concrete, or a steel box full of sand from the three point hitch, thats what we did with our MF 165. It will help prevent her tipping up, increase traction dramatically and ( if it hangs out the back a good way! ) you will be surprised how it improves the steering. Just be careful you don"t back it into anything!
