There is an old MH 44 at a junk yard near me that has a hand clutch in front of the shifter. I"m assuming that is a Live Pto clutch. I have a MH 30 and was wondering if anyone has attempted converting a 30 to Live PTO? I know the 44, 33, and 30 are almost identical body and frame wise.

It can be done, but it is about the same as putting another rear end into your 30. 44's wore
those live clutch assemblies down. Unless a purist
open the 44 tranny case, check the gears for pitting, pinion chips, wear from low gear oil. The
live clutch means disc brakes(great),but require
new facings, clutch pack rebuild. If frozen, or bolted up, as was common shade tree solution to
slippage, you have more detail. I would advise
against all this sweat labor. How much work will
the 30 be doing? A brute, like the 44 Special is
a better candidate for live clutch PTO.As a first
time effort, for your 30, who would pull the parts
from the 44? Buy the complete case, if you really
want it. Spending $150 gives you study time, the
parts yard will give you a pile of unknowns.
