I just had a bad experience with my MF dealer. I needed to replace the Power Steering pump on my 245. There are a couple of different pumps used on the 245 and my parts manual says to get the OEM # off of the pump. I did this and went to the internet to find a pump but the number on my pump did not match anything I found on the internet. I called my MF dealer who I do a lot of business with to cross reference the number to give me the current number. He told me the number on my pump did not match anything in the MF data base, he said he called Massey, Agrico I guess, to confirm this. As they had done some work on my tractor in the past he told me he had a pump in stock that would work. I asked him for the part number of the pump he had in stock but at first he would not give it to me. He then gave me a number. I searched the net for this part number without luck. I called another MF dealer and gave him the updated part number given to me by my dealer, and they told me the number had no match. I called my dealer, asked for the manager and told him this and asked him to double check to give me the correct number. When he did I went to the net and found the part. The dealer wanted $580 and I ordered one with gear, reservoir and gasket for $275. Is this normal? I have all 3 MF manuals but when they instruct you to get the OEM from the tractor they are no help if the OEM is outdated. Who would I call to be able to reference these numbers myself, is there a MF technical help number?
