I bought an old tractor from my dad. A Massey-Ferguson, but I don"t know much else about it. 3 cyld Perkins Diesel, with a shuttle shift tranny. Runs great but I would like to know more SN 9A 71764. Thanks for any help. Rich...

The serial number 9A 71764 is for a 1969 tractor with the 3 cylinder Perkins engine If it has a manual shuttle with a clutch it could be one of three models 1 is a MF135 orchard they are red and gray or 2 if it is a yellow industrial it would be either an MF20 or MF40. The MF20 has drum brakes right behind the wheel with a shaft going from the center housing out to the brakes. The MF40 has inboard disc brakes with planetaries on the outer end of the rear axle housing. If it has the Instant Reverse transmission with the two pedals for forward and reverse on the right side they have no clutch. it would probably be an MF40 I have never seen an MF20 with that type transmission.
