After starting tractor a few times glow plugs will burn up; have 12 volt system added extra inline resistor but am still burning up glow plugs. Has anyone got information on this problem?

Resistor where? In the ignition primary circuit? Fine.

Surely not in the glow plug ckt. My glow plugs use like 20 amperes each from a 12v circuit. First of all why a resistor, and second of all what do you do with the heat? Doesn't make sense. You want the heat in the intake manifold which is where the glow plug wire is supposed to be.

What you may have are 6 volt plugs wired across a 12v conversion circuit. I have a Ford 2000 factory setup for 12v. It has 2 glow plugs and they are wired in series to drop 6v across each. They have been there since the '60's.

Here's a random thought. The glowplugs are still getting electrical power even after the engine starts. Check your ignition switch. Put a voltmeter or test light on the glowplug circuit. Check for power in the start and run positions. If that's the problem just wire your glowplugs through a pushbutton switch. I just brought one of those STD.23C TO35's home last week, but haven't opened it up yet to see what's going to need fixing. Good luck, Jim
