Looking for massey V8 nut,s out there,
Always loved these tractors, and the V8 combines too for that matter,Thinking of buying a 760 massey just because I like the machine so much,
and the design of it,
I was enthralled just sitting in this 760 I went to look at last week,
I started it,and just listened to it for awhile,
I was amazed at the header size,
It had three hydralic ram,s instead of just the two on other combines,
Man,what a Brute!
I like the way Massey design,s things, practical, and easy to maintain, and deal with.
Hat,s off to the red and white triple triangle!

Maybe OK in US or Canada,( thin prairie type crops with oodles of sunshine) but the 750, 760, 865 etc N. American type combines were never any good for UK conditions, and were plagued with reliability problems. Second hand ones fetch only scrap prices over here My neighour had 3 and he once remarked to me "These Massey combines, they are rubbish, never again!" Sorry, buts thats they way it is. This side of the pond, where the climate is more changable and the crops are thicker ( 3 and 4 ton to the acre crops of wheat and barley are not uncommon) it is Claas, New Holland, (and perhaps John Deere although they aint really suited to our conditions either )that rule the roost.

I generally like the MF stuff, but as far as your statement
"I like the way Massey designs things, practical, and easy to maintain and deal with", well, that doesn"t apply to an MF combine. It doesn"t apply to any make combine, for that matter, not even my Gleaner. A cantankerous, infernal beast be the self-propelled combined reaper-thresher.

kirk, massey was at its peak when i started my apprenticeship in 1970, the m.f. 201 and 102 cane harvesters were very popular machines. the 102 had the 6.354. perkins and the 201 had the 510 c.i, v8. they then fitted the 605 c.i. v8. the 205 was fitted with a 540 c.i. andthe 640 c.i. v8 was fitted to the m.f. 305 which was their last harvester made before closing down the factory in bundaberg in queensland, australia. they were very sweet engines and sadly missed, now all you see and hear are 6 cyls in the toft and cameco machines, just not the same buddy. cheers for now from down under.

Sibby,You mentioned the 305 Cane Harvester.Would you know where there are any Salvage 305 Cane harvesters or the 640 engines that powered them are at? Please e-mail me if you can help.I am looking for a set of exhaust manifolds off of one of those machines as they are different than tractor type manifolds.
