Replace Hydrolic hoses on power steering

The two hydrolic hoses on the power steering system of my MF 245, which are connected between the cylinder and piston, are begining to dry rot. They are connected to the steering piston on the left and the cylinder directly behind the battery beneath the steering column. I want to replace them while my tractor has down time. I went to my dealer and am not going to pay the rediculous price.

Would I be able to take the two hydrolic hose assemblies off and bring them to a hydrolic hose specialty shop and have them fabricated? It would be MUCH less expensive and several people have told me it is possible, but none of them have a Massey. My Massey dealer told me it would be impossible to do it this way and I could only use a hose/assembly from Massey due to the special connections.

Has any one done this successfully in the past?

I blew the one on my 255. I just went to farm & fleet (local) and found a hose about the right lenght (60" or so?) and then found adaptors.

I had to use zip ties to tie it back and keep the final bend away from the fan.

Has been working fine every since.

Hi... Lately I have seen compression fittings for steel tubing you MAY be able use your existing pieces of steel tubing. If not its bend and fit as David said. Lay your old pieces next to your new ones. How much did the dealer want?

Hi,
We have a 240 and 250 in the UK but not a 245. From your description the system sounds the same.
I have had new pipes made for a customer with a 250 4WD.
There are intricate bends which have to be almost exact if the new pipes are to fit. As far as I can recall the pipe ends are brazed on and should therefore (with care) be removable by your local pipe shop. They will find it difficult to get the bends exact. Fitting them will call for some patience and 'try it, bend it a bit' on your part until a/ you can get them into place and b/ you can get them to fit. Don't be afraid to remove anything which will make the job easier. Good luck.
