MF240 Cannot select neutral when parked in gear on

If my MF240 is parked on a slope such that the transmission is under load I cannot get either of the shift levers in neutral despite depressing the clutch without rocking the tractor a bit (which takes the load off the transmission enough to release the gears). Of course you not going to be able to rock the tractor when alone on steeper slopes, and the high-low shifter must be in neutral to start, so then one needs to get help. The clutch works fine and there is no problem once in neutral. With the clutch depressed and in gear the tractor will not move, but will move OK after rocking it. Has anybody experienced this and what can be the problem?

Book me an air ticket and i'm on my way.
You don't say whether this happens facing downhill AND uphill. A couple of things spring to mind.
1/Looseness of a selector fork on the selector rod.
2/Severe wear or broken selector fork.
If this is the case it might be possible to partially engage 2 gears at once. This would cause the transmission to lock up. It might only free itself when the tractor is rocked thus eliminating the overlap. Seems there's nothing short of taking the steering box cover assembly off and inspecting as much as can be seen.
Good luck

Silly question perhaps, but are you certain that it does not have 'Multi-Power'. Your description is how the 'hill hold' should work. Even if you do not have the control handle on the instrument panel take a look under the battery box behind the fuel tank. You might see a rod going into the housing or perhaps a grommet where the rod should be.
When you park the tractor facing downhill in forward gear, does this problem arise? Hill-hold will work in reverse gear and forward gear when facing uphill?
Please have a look and come back.

By the way - what is multipower (I should have asked this before - I do not think we get it in these parts (South Africa)

Thanks for your reply. Definitely not multipower. No such rod as you mention. Also - it was not a problem before, which makes me think it is a wear related issue.

hi! does your tracktor have multipower? if multipower is shifted in high it won't let you shift it to neutral when you're in a slope, as the multipower causes the tranmission to have a "hill holding" feature.
