Well, my 1130 is up to its old tricks, fix fuel problem, now the starter is sticking on. I did hear some "electrical" popping under the dash when I turned the key, then the starter started turning real slow, i turned off the key, but the engine kept turning. Had to jump out of the cab open the battery and remove the cable as quickly as I could. Already too late to save the cable, it"s melted. What is wrong with this thing now????

Please help!!

Leo

This problem has only happened once, it seems like the batteries may not have enough charge, but the popping I heard by the starter switch has me very concerned. I don't think there was much damage other than the battery cable and possibly the starter switch. I was wondering though is the voltage regulator under the dash or on the alternator? The tractor appears to have a delco alternator, which would normally have the voltage regulator built in wouldn't it? while i was working on the fuel problems, I did see a metal box type part under the dash that had several wires running to it and resembles what I have seen in the past as being a voltage regulator. Also if anyone has a good schematic of the wiring on an 1130 a copy would be greatly appreciated. My manuals do not cover this very well.

tks,

Leo

Sounds a common problem. Our 1100 needed a new solenoid under warranty. It also buggered up the control box* a year or two later .

*It was a UK spec model,(1969 ) just before it was decided at long last it was time to fit cars, tractors trucks etc with alternators instead of dynamos!

My 1080 did the same thing about a month after getting the starter rebuilt, alternator tested and new batteries. It turned out my voltage regulator was bad and not charging the batteries. After they get so low the solenoid wont dissengage and everything self-destructs. For me it ment a new solenoid, regulator and a good recharge on the batteries. That happened about 4 months ago and have had no proplems since.

Good luck Merle

Seen that before, not a good situation, waiting for a 'potential' battery explosion. Looks like your solenoid may have shorted, may be time for a starter rebuild also. The ignition switch 'may' be ok but I doubt it. Now is a good time to clean ALL of the battery connections- wire brush them all when replacing the cables. Might check any fuses to see if they blew AND one or more gauges 'could' have shorted. Glad you didn't get a face full of battery acid!

The starter is a new rebuilt, yet another story related to the fuel problems I've had. Burned out old starter while bleeding the system. I'm using two UPS heavy duty sealed batteries, they are setup for heavy load and drain so shouldn't blow, but the starter switch didn't sound very good. Probably have to take the entire dash apart now, just what I need with no time and winter fast approaching. I need this stinking thing for my snow blower!!! I'm beginning not to like her so much anymore....

Had this happen to our 1105 a year er so ago, the starter would keep turning over when the motor was running, turn out dad miss placed a wire when he put a new selinode on.
