Hello everybody. I'm changing the hyd fluid in my MF 135 and need to know the best way to remove the filter. Have got it drained and saw a twisted wire it looks like on top of the filter. Not knowing exactly what to look for inside I noticed all gears and teeth look good and clean. However it surprised me to see the one larger gear just sitting on the shaft slid off of the back bevel gear with a sort of round spiral spring in front of it. I guess this normal. I am mechanically incline but into unfamiliar territory. Your help is always appreciated. Thanks.

Cut the tie wire, loosen the wing bolt. Note the cup on top the filter. There's another underneath. Lift by that bottom cup to keep grunge in the filter and the cup. If you lift out the filter grunge collected will slide right down into the pump input.

That sliding gear you see is the PTO shifter gear. Its controlled by the fork on the PTO handle in the cover you took off. You have to get it back on the fork when you put the cover back on. When that gear is slid to the rear, it meshes with the transmission to be ground driven and when its slid forward it meshes with the PTO drive gears from the second clutch.

Am about to go through the same thing as JWyatt.
I've seen written on this board and from Big Dean to be sure to reattach the tie-wire.

Also, are there any tricks to re-engaging the PTO handle fork to the gear? Is this an obvious attachment point?....don't have it open to look at at this point.

Thanks,

There is a groove in the hub of the gear. The fork rides in that groove. When you have two screws put in, try shifting the PTO (no need to run the engine). If it goes into both gears and then comes back to neutral (as tested by turning on the PTO shaft) then its right. If you can't get it back to neutral, the fork isn't in the groove.

Its not always an instant satisfaction. Sometimes takes a couple tries.

Thanks, also there is a thin/flat spring(?) about 2 inches(approx)in diameter in front of the gear the fork goes on. I haven't seen it in the I/T manual. Any ideas. Will try to work on tomorrow.

My hydraulic on my 135 is very slow. Where do i find the oil filter? Can it be the reason?

yes, dont move the handle or the gear when you have them seperated. It too me about 10 minuites to get it to reengage. Try to sort of tip the bottom of the handle away as you go in, then push them bottom in.
