I've got an aquaintance with a MH 55 and he is looking for a 3pt hitch kit. I've seen some worksaver stuff.. but does anyone else have any ideas? I even thought of cadplans.. but didn't see one specifically I thought might fit.

thanks for any help.

I know it didn't come with a 3pt hitch.. that's why I asked about where to find an aftermarket one.

An answer like that makes me wonder about this forum.

Lots of tractors with no 3pt hitch have had aftermarket conversions. I was going to purchase a farmall (49) H and found a place making a nice heavy 3pt hitch adapter for many IH and JD tractors. The worksaver people i mentioned also make many.

thanks...

I think your out of luck. I don't know anyone or anywhere to get a 3pt hitch for these HM tractors. I find it surprising that no one makes a good after market setup for these tractors. If you do come upon anything let me know I am also in search of a 3pt hitch for my MH 30. But, come to think of it I have never seen a 55 with a hitch on it ever. Mostly just pulling tractors. Good Luck

""I think your out of luck. ""

I doubt that. If I wanted to I could weld one up myself.. all it is is lift and link arms, hyds, pins and mounting points.

""I don't know anyone or anywhere to get a 3pt hitch for these HM tractors.""

I've seen a few places over the years that make custom retrofits.. I just never saved their URL's as at that time.. all my tractors had 3pt.

"" I find it surprising that no one makes a good after market setup for these tractors.""

As vast as the tractor world is.. I'm betting someone does.. or has a unit that could be easilly adapted..

Well, you can try the worksaver site.. or another one I found. I have the url at work and will post it here when I get their.

For what it's worth.. I've seen a custom 3pt hitch on a tracked tractor.. was driven by a da cylinder that was mounted to a horizontal fixed lower crossmember, and pivoted on a hefty pin.. the top portion of the cyl pivoted on a pin that was on a rockshaft. On either side of the rock shaft were the 'upper lift arms'.. link arms connected those to 'lower lift arms' that were connected to that same lower member, on either side of the hyd cylinder. The hyd power was supplied by one of those 12v self contained hyd units mounted up by the operators platform, with the 2 hoses run back to the cylinder. Nice little setup.. all self contained resevoir and relief system, and the unit looked like it was simply made in a box fram as the rear support.. The rock shaft was mounted inside some heavy walled pipe that had nearly the same ID as the OD of the rockshaft. A couple grease fittings and it looked pretty decent for an obvious aftermarket fab up.

I completely agree.

An old machinist once told me that if a man put it together.. then he ( the machinist )could take it apart. He also said that if a part was made once.. then it could be made again. He was refering to a broken part to one of my antique tractors. The part was 'not available' and could only be had via salvage. He looked at it and said that it was made of metal.. he could forge or turn a new one that looked just like it...

I installed a 3-pt add-on kit to a 44-Special way back in the 70's, and still have the tractor & hitch, don't wish to sell it. There's no information on the hitch itself as to where it's made, but a company named SPEE-CO comes to mind as a possibility and was sold through one of the smaller farm-supply stores like Big Bear or Fleet Supply at that time. The hitch uses a hyd. cylinder for movement. The nuisance with this 3-pt set-up is having to climb over it every time you get on/off the back of the tractor.

Spee-co is still in business making small ag parts.. like ORC's and pto adapters.. etc.

I agree about having to climb over the back of stuff.

I was thinking about getting the rest of the lift linkage for the powertroll on mj JD-B.. but realized how hard it will make it to get on/off the tractor. Even withot fenders, it is a bit of a finagle.. especially with the pto shifter on the left of the seat, and the clutch rod on the right side.. etc.
