Radio shack Catalog # 276-1661 is a pack of 4 ea 6 ampere 50 Peak Inverse Voltage (PIV) diodes for $2.46. May (should) be in stock in your neighborhood store.

For no more than they cost, hook all 4 in parallel. That would give you at least 15 amps of capability out of a max possible of 24 and 50 volts of reverse protection.

Just lay them on top of each other and twist the leads together. Solder your interconnect wire with rosin core (not acid core) solder.

If you can't solder, crimp terminal lugs on everything and use a screw/nut on each end to hold it all together.

Then cover with at least one layer of electrical tape to keep it from shorting out to something.

If you have a problem with this come back for more.

Forgot to mention (but you already knew it....right) the cathode has a painted band on it and be sure and get all the bands on the same end.

With that said, be sure and install it with the cathode in the correct direction.....like the old one was connected.

I use 2 - ECG 125 diodes connected in PARALLEL with the band (cathode) ends toward the alternator.

They are rated at 2.5 Amps, 1000 PIV, so the voltage is more than adequate, and the use of 2 in parallel means 5 Amp capacity, which eliminates the occasional burn-out from using only one.

If you want sources, Google ECG125.

You can get a diode at raido shack that will work I have bought several of them there but I no longer can find the number for the ones I used to to get.
