On my farm I use a MF 203 industrial tractor, but maintaining it is a trial sometimes because few people have even heard of this model, much less stock parts. Does anyone know if the 3-pt on this model is the same as similar timeframe (early 60's) ag models? It uses the same 3-cyl 3A.152 Perkins engine as the MF 35, but all I know about the hitch is that its the same as on the 205. On mine the leveler box had been welded, and the numerous salvage yards I've contacted have never seen a 203 or 205. Second, it has a dual clutch for the live PTO, but the second stage won't disengage. The first stage is near end-of-life; would a thin first stage prevent release of the second stage? The IT manuals cover the 35, 50, 202, and 204, but not 203. The tranny has a shuttle-reverse and the rear axle has reduction gears in a round housing about halfway between the wheel and the differential case. Anyone else out there own one of these almost-orphan machines?

Hi Tony -

Haven't been exposed to the 203 or shuttle-shift. However, the three-point mechanisms on our 40 and 30 industrials are identical to the ag models except for a 27 spline rather than 10 on the pump shaft.

With the A3 engine (vertical injectors), it would place the manufacture date in the same time frame as the 35's - 1964 or earlier. And the 35 shop manual will cover engine, clutch and 3-point.

The final drives may be similar to the 65 ag model. MF exchanged similar finals between ag, industrial and logging equipment.

If you can find a casting number on L or R axle housing, and the width of the center ring on either final drive I'll check for you.

The levelling boxes are pretty much universal - two different lengths for standard and high clearance. A correct length unit should work. (I say this assuming your set-up (pins, knuckles, arms) is similar to the ag units. Our industrials were, but I learn more about these old girls nearly every day!)

There may be a relationship between clutch wear and PTO release. There is an adjustment for that - check my post yesterday under MF 35.

Hope this helps.

THANK YOU Jack! You may have already saved me some trouble on the clutch. A front loader bracket covered the inspection port - I didn't know it was there (mine is 4 bolts). I should be able to remove the bracket without removing the loader and try adjusting the clutch clearance you mentioned in your 35 posting. The rear axle housings are 899473M1 and 899475M1, and the final drive ring width is 1.5". Final drive is halfway between fender and wheel, not differential case & wheel as I said earlier. I have the 35/40/50 I&T manual, but they totally ignore the 3-pt. The lift clevis at the hitch arm is 505447M1, and the distance from the rockshaft lift arm pin to the clevis pin is 24". An interesting sidelight: on the front hubs, where normal tractors have a sheetmetal grease cap, this machine has a cast housing with a recessed grease zerk in the center. The raised area holding the zerk is square on the outside, so I assume the housing threads into the hub. No one around here has heard of such a thing. This 203 is one odd bird!
