Looking at a Massey 65

Have located a Massey 65 with under 1500 hrs, good metal with no dents, no leaks except a minor one around the back valve cover on a Perkins diesel. Multipower works good, appears to be in excellent condition and am told that it is by the gentleman selling it (a person who buys and sells tractors as a retirement hobby, he bought three from a retired farmer and original owner). Would this be a good tractor for woods work (hauling tops and firewood) as well as upkeep around a small hobby farm? Also, what other things should I look for as far as condition is concerned, and what would be a fair price? The seller is asking $4,000.00 and won't go lower. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

It sounds like a good buy if it is all you say. You will like the power and versatility. I have an MF50, the model before the MF65 but similar size wise. I use it for everything on my 40 acre farm, mowing, baling, raking, plowing, disking, lifting, you get the picture. Its age is nothing to worry about if you take care of it.

It strikes me as a pretty good deal, especially if it's a later model - they were made from '58 to the mid-60's; if you get the serial number and post it here someone can tell you the year.

I have a gas model and the power is nice compared to the 8n's, etc. found in this price range!

I've had a 165LP and now have a 255D which I believe replaced your 65. The hours seem real low, but you indicate the tractors appearance and sheet metal are in good shape. I think you would like the size of the tractor! The age is something that would concern some people!

I don't think the tractor is too big! You can buy something too small. It seems like a fair to good choice to me!

If you have other questions, feel free to e-mail me or post another message!

I am also looking at a massey 30 and a massey 65. The massey 30 is in mint condition, showroom clean. The asking price is 5000.00 which seems alittle high. Is this a fair price and are there anything I need to know about this tractor which may help me decide.
I am also looking at a 65 which looks alittle rough but seems to run well. I did notice it had a diesel leak at one of the lines. The asking price of this one is 6500.00 but does have a Rhino cutter and box blade that goes with it. Is this a gamble or a decent price . your info will be appreciated. I don't know much on about these model tractors. thanks

I would rather have the 65 than the 30, but $ 1,500 is alot of money! It would help others that might have information if they knew if you had 3 acres of grass to mow or 160 acres of pasture or row crop. The 65 could be alot of tractor if you just have 5 to 20 acres to mow!

I have about 100 acres of pasture, so I prefer the larger tractor. Around here the cutter(5-6ft 3pth) is about $ 500 to $ 1,000 and the box blade in the
$250 to 350 range!
