I have a Massey 2135 with a front end loader. The power steering feels hard what I mean is if I am sitting still the steering does not turn feels like it has power steering at all. If I move the tractor a foot the power steering feels normal. Is this normal for power steering on a tractor to operate this way? I have replaced both rams to the power steering and the loader is empty. May be normal I just don"t know THANKS

Your problem sounds to me like the pump is not building the pressure it should the first thing I would do is check the pump pressure. I have a picture that shows how to hook a gauge to check the pressure. If you want to Email me your address I will Email it to you.

Hi,
FIrst of all you need to do a general check to make sure that there is no excess wear in the ball joints. Also check that the king-pins are free and that there is no major gap under the KP top arms indicating thrust bearing failure. Check the fluid level. If these are OK look at the adjusting barrel on the steering column. You should have movement in the column and you should see the valve spool move up and down as you turn the wheel left and right.
IF you turn the wheel and little or no movement of the spool occurs then it would appear that the bearings in the top of the column (adjust with large nuts under steering wheel, see Big Dean's site). This will require removal of the steering wheel and a spanner made from a piece of 1/4 plate to suite the nut. Adjust to a point where there is no vertical float in the column and close the tab washer.
If you have full movement of the spool and no PAS
you may have wear in the rocker shafts in the steering box.
Hope this helps.
