Acording to the Massey history book I use to have==I loaned it out and never got it back.. oh thats how I got it.. oops

the 44-6's were made because the 260,4cyl engines were not comming off the assembly lines fast enough to meet demand for 44massey tractors.

and when bot demand and engine production met the 6cyl was dropped.

According wrong. The F226 was kept in the 44-6,
due to it's popularity in the 101 Senior. Once
the more powerful, more torque H260 was selling
much better, the F226 was fazed out.

The 44-6 came out from 1946 to 1951, only gas and just 6,657 built. They were their own model, not a motor option to the 44-4, altho a lot of parts will interchange. According to a Massey-Harris handbook. Both of mine have the flathead Continetal motor. (same motor used in the corn picker and the 101 sr.)

You "found".Are you buying either tractor?I could be interested in the 44-6 if you aren't and the price is reasonable and the distance is not too great. Not too many 44-6s around anymore.

The 44-6 used a 226 continental engine. The chrysler engine was used in the early 101's and the super 101.The standard 44 used a H260 continental engine.

My books tell me that the 6 cylinder version was available in both tractors as an option. The 4 cylinder was standard.

Massey Harris made the 44 with a 260 engine, the 44 special with a 277 engine, and the 44-6 with a chrysler 6 cyl. engine

Bruce is right. It's a 226 Continental, not a Chrysler. This same basic engine powered the Kaiser cars and some late 50's willys products.
