Has anyone had the filter element stick? I"m about to pull the metal tab off trying to get it out. It doesn"t thread in does it? I don"t see any way of getting a tool in the opening to pry it loose.

Ideas appreciated.
Jeff

Try shaking the filter sideways that will usually make them turn loose unless it has been run long enough for the dirt to pack in around it so tight it has it hung. I have had a few that I had to use a long screwdriver to dig out the dirt pack in around them.

I have a 40B with a similar / same filter. I would recommend drilling a couple of holes in the metal end of the filter so you could try to twist and pull with a little more than the metal tab on the end. Make sure you are far enough out not to damage the inner secondary filter. Make the holes big enough to get something fairly strong in.

I don't think the 165 has a secondary filter. Our 165 doesn't and the dealer never asks about it when we get a new filter. Our 285, however, does have a primary and secondary filter. Completely different way of holding the filter in as well. The 285 has a rod through the middle. The 165 has a solid end, and has the clamp screw on the end.
