When cutting grass in the pasture I notice the PTO shaft stopped rotating. I tried to lift the tool but the 3 point hitch would not operate (draft up and position lever up.) I finished the job in ground speed.

When stopped with the engine off and turning the PTO shaft by hand it turns with slight resistance when in neutral. When in ground speed it cannot be rotated by hand. When engaged in automatic it turns with some resistance.

Where do I begin to look??

I appreciate any direction, got more work to do.

Sounds like you've got a problem with your 2 stage clutch, might need adjusting.

Louie, CH is on the right track, check adjustment first, is there any oil leaking out of the little hole in bottom of clutch housing, oil from engine or front of gearbox can leak onto your clutch plates and make them slip under load. good luck.

CH,
Along with the PTO being out the 3 point hydrolic lift does not work at all any more, they both went out at the same time. I cannot lift the bushog up. Would the 2 stage clutch affect this?

Thanks for the initial direction.

Yes, the second stage drives your hydraulic pump and then the pto after the pump.

Thanks guys, no oil leaking from the weep hole by the clutch. (I suppose that is good news?) I will adjust the two stage clutch to specs.

Thanks from Cajun Country in French Settlement LA.
