Hi I need HELP with a 4 cyl Standard Diesel. The tractor stops as thow it is out of fuel. I have changed the fuel lift pump and all new filters. All fuel lines are clear. Just before stoping the engine picks up a couple of hundred RPM's then dies. If I open the injectors to blead them and use the starter fule pumps out of all the enjectors. On several ocasions while bleeding the system the engine has started but kills before I can close the enjectors. After bleeding the system the tractor will restart with a lot of cranking and run some time for 2 hours other times for 3 to 4 minutes befote stopping. If I bleed the system again it will restart for a short peroid before stopping. Thare are no fuel leakes that I can see in the lines and all fittings are tight so I don't think air is getting into the system. Nees HELP on what to check next, or what is broken. Thanks

Hello Greg -

This is a most unusual problem. But still sounds like air in the system, or a fuel delivery restriction.

To help clarify your post, when you say fuel comes out the injectors when bleeding, is this from around the small nuts holding the line joining all 4 injectors, or the larger nuts on the lines going down to the injector pump?

Have you bled the air from the two 5/16" vent plugs on the side of the injector pump? Top plug first, then the bottom one, while pumping the fuel pump priming lever.

Hope this helps.

Jack I loosen the large nuts at the injectors and crank the engine with the starter and fuel comes out from around the loose large nuts. This is the only way to get it started.
