For Shame. Kicking a dying horse for a couple hours... Could be a simple as a loose valve adjuster, or as nasty as a spun main bearing insert. In between could be a shot rod bearing from poor lubrication. If a rod hasn't made a new vision port in the side of the block it might be repairable. If it is a rod or main bearing, you will need to split the tractor (the engine IS the front half the frame) and have the crank reground. It could have been caused by running low on oil or a clogged oil filter, or a broken oil pump. Maybe a grange clogged oil line. You will need to make sure the lubrication lines are all clean, or the rebuilt engine might not last long. Oil to the rocker arms is a problem in Continental engines. The ends of the rocker arm shaft are plugged with corks and the corks rot after 40 years. Then the oil spills and doesn't lubricate the rocker arms which wear out. Also the low flow allows the passageways to plug. A place with a rebuilt engine and lots of parts is located at 1301 N 14th St, Indianola, Iowa. The have an extensive catalog of parts. Can't mention their name here. Gerald J.
